Why Choose Halal-N-Tayyib Grass-Fed Beef?

At Halal-N-Tayyib, buying our grass-fed beef means more than just choosing premium meat—it’s a commitment to ethical farming, animal welfare, and environmental sustainability. Our cattle roam freely on pastures, never confined to cramped spaces, reducing stress and illness. Raised without hormones or antibiotics, our beef is a healthier, more natural alternative to conventional options.

We believe in full transparency and uncompromising quality. Only meat that meets our strict Halal and Tayyib standards carries our name. Explore our blog to learn about the health benefits of grass-fed meat, and make an informed choice that prioritizes both superior taste and your family’s well-being.
Halal Grass-Fed Beef
What Is the Grade of Your Beef? 🥩
Our cattle are grass-fed and grass-finished, meaning they are not graded like grain-finished cattle. USDA grading is based on marbling, which is influenced by grain feeding, making it an unfair comparison—like grading a deer or elk against feedlot cattle.
Unlike conventional beef, our cattle are never force-fed grain or confined in crowded, inhumane feedlots. Instead, they roam freely, grazing naturally, resulting in healthier, more nutrient-dense meat with a true, natural beef flavor.

What Makes Halal-N-Tayyib Beef Special?
Our beef comes from cows raised on nutrient-dense grass and rotationally grazed pastures. We raise them without hormones, antibiotics, steroids, or GMOs, ensuring high-quality, healthy, and delicious beef. We prioritize Halal standards with humane, stun-free, horizontal hand-slaughtering methods.

What Does "It's the Cow, Not the How" Mean?
When you buy from Halal-N-Tayyib, you’re supporting sustainable farming practices that protect both animal welfare and the environment. Our beef is raised without harmful additives, and we use regenerative farming methods, like rotational grazing, to ensure superior taste and nutrition.

What Is "Stun-Free & Horizontally Hand-Slaughtered Zabiha"?
We are committed to humane practices. Our animals are hand-slaughtered by the owner himself, following a stun-free process that is both ethical and Halal-compliant.

Where Is the Beef Processed?
All our beef is processed in a Halal-certified, USDA facility that has over 30 years of experience. We process each animal individually to ensure the highest standards.

How Are the Cows Raised?
Our cows are locally raised on pesticide- and herbicide-free pastures. They graze from March to November, promoting healthy cattle and high-quality beef.

What are the health benefits of grass-fed beef?
Grass-fed beef is a healthier alternative to conventional grain-fed meat. It has a lower fat content and less saturated fat while offering higher protein levels. Unlike grain-fed beef, which can contain 35-65% fat due to GMO grain finishing, true pasture-raised beef has only 15-25% fat, deriving its rich flavor naturally from the quality of the meat itself.

Additionally, grass-fed beef is packed with heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids and has lower levels of inflammatory omega-6 fats. A Mayo Clinic study also highlights that it contains higher amounts of antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a beneficial fat linked to reduced risks of heart disease and cancer.

Does Grass-Fed Beef Taste Different Than Conventionally Fed Beef?
Yes, grass-fed beef has a distinct flavor compared to conventionally grain-fed beef. Since our cattle are raised on a natural grass diet, the meat contains less fat, and the fat itself has a lower melting point than that of corn-fed beef. This results in a cleaner, more natural taste that many describe as richer and more flavorful.

Why Is Grass-Fed Beef More Expensive?
Grass-fed beef costs more than conventionally raised beef due to higher production expenses. Our farmers are committed to raising cattle naturally—without hormone implants, confinement feeding, antibiotics, or high-carbohydrate feeds. While industrial beef production relies on these methods to cut costs, we prioritize quality and ethical farming practices, which result in increased expenses.

Beyond cost, grass-fed beef offers superior health benefits. Unlike conventionally raised cattle, which are often fed a corn-based diet supplemented with antibiotics and growth hormones, grass-fed beef is naturally higher in healthy unsaturated fats and lower in saturated fats. Health experts, including Dr. Katz, MD, recommend choosing grass-fed beef for its nutritional advantages.

To make high-quality, Halal, and local grass-fed meats more accessible, we offer a meat share system. With Allah’s (SWT) help, our system allows customers to save up to 50% compared to retail prices. We believe that ethically sourced, nutritious meat should be available to everyone, and our share system helps make that possible.

How Do You Ensure Traceability and Transparency?
We guarantee full transparency—our cows are born and raised on our farm, so there’s no need for animals from unknown sources or auctions.

Are Your Cows Raised Without Hormones or Antibiotics?
Yes, our cows are free from added hormones and antibiotics. Our beef is processed without artificial additives, making it a healthier option for you and your family.

Why Should I Buy Directly From You?
Purchasing directly from Halal-N-Tayyib cuts out middlemen like wholesalers and retailers, ensuring that you get the highest quality beef at competitive prices.

Cow Share: What Is It?
Halal-N-Tayyib Meat Shares offers high-quality, Halal grass-fed beef with customizable options, including quarter, half, or whole cow shares. This bulk-buying method provides premium meat at a budget-friendly price while allowing customers to personalize their cuts.

By purchasing a share of a live animal, buyers enjoy significant savings and a variety of cuts, making it easy to share with family and friends. Each package is pre-cut, vacuum-sealed, and freezer-ready with a shelf life of up to two years, ensuring both freshness and convenience.

With rising beef prices, buying directly eliminates middlemen costs, keeping prices competitive with supermarkets. Whole and half beef shares offer discounted prices on premium cuts like filet, ribeye, and strip, along with an extra 4% discount on a la carte pricing. Customers can also request organs and bones for added value.

Custom orders may require lead time, and processing dates will be provided for confirmation. To learn more about our cow share system, click here.

How Many People Does It Take to Fill a Whole Cow Share?
Typically, 4-8 people can fill a whole Cow Share. Simply decide how many shares you'd like and find others to take the remaining portions. Talk to friends, family, neighbors, or co-workers about joining you in a whole cow order. Many people share their cow share link via email or social media to gather participants. Once shared, just sit back and watch your Cow Share fill up!

What Size Beef Share Is Best for My Family?
  • 1/4 Beef Share: Ideal for a family of four or can be split with a friend. This option is great for those who eat beef occasionally.
  • 1/2 (Side) Beef Share: Perfect for larger families or a Group/Buying Club with 2-4 members. It offers more variety and quantity.
  • Whole Cow: The best deal for large families or a Group/Buying Club with 4-8 members. This choice provides the most savings and a wide range of cuts.
  • When choosing a share, consider your family size, how often you consume beef, and your available freezer space!
How Much Freezer Space Do I Need for Each Share?
  • 1/4 Share: Requires about 4 cubic feet of freezer space.
  • 1/2 Share: Needs around 8 cubic feet.
  • Whole Cow: Can require 12-15 cubic feet of space.

Can the People Invited to Join a Cow Pool Invite Their Friends?
Yes, the more the merrier! As a Cow Share Group participant, you are welcome to invite friends, family, neighbors, and anyone else to join in on the Cow Share Group. This way, you can enjoy the benefits of sharing a beef share together!

What If I Can’t Fill My Cow Share Group?
Don’t give up! Although no one is financially bound to the Cow Share Group until it is full, you have three weeks to fill it, which is plenty of time. Remember to encourage the people who have already signed up for a share in your Cow Share Group to reach out to their friends and family as well. Spreading the word can help you fill the group more easily!

How Will the Beef Be Packaged?
All orders are cut, frozen, and vacuum sealed using our cryo-vac packaging. This vacuum packaging is recommended to help protect your beef from “freezer burn,” ensuring that it stays fresh and maintains its quality while stored in your freezer.

Can I Get the Bones, Fat, or Offal (Tongue, Liver, Kidneys, and Heart) with My Order?
Of course! While these items are considered specialty items and are not normally included, you can request them. Just make note of what you would like on the order form, and we’ll be happy to include it with your order.

How Often Do I Cook Beef?
Consider how frequently you prepare beef. If you use it often, a larger share may be more economical and provide more variety in cuts.

What Is the Cost Consideration for Beef Shares?
Whole cows tend to be the best deal per pound, but the upfront cost is higher. Evaluate what fits your budget while still meeting your family's needs.
Can I Share a Beef Share with Friends?
Yes! Splitting a larger share with friends or neighbors can be a good option, allowing you to enjoy more variety without excess.

Can I Customize My Bulk Order?
If you have any special requests, be sure to mention them when placing your order!
  • For 1/2 Share or Whole Cow Orders: Yes! Our processor can customize your order to meet your specific needs. Whether you prefer thinner or thicker steaks, more ground beef, or fewer roasts, we will do our best to accommodate your preferences. Just let us know your requests when placing your order.
  • For 1/4 Share Orders: Customization is limited because we match you with others who requested the same cut style. Our processor can only cut a side or whole cow in the same way.

What Is the Difference Between Live Weight and Hanging Weight?
  • Live Weight: This is the weight of the animal before processing. For example, an average two-year-old steer typically weighs around 1,000 lbs. Heifers usually weigh less than steers.
  • Hanging Weight (Carcass Weight): After slaughter, the animal's skin, head, non-usable organs, and hooves are removed. The remaining carcass is split down the middle and weighed, which is referred to as the hanging weight. This weight is typically around 60% of the live weight (approximately 600 lbs for a 1,000 lb steer).
  • Aging Process: The two sides of the carcass are then hung in a cooler for 10 days to two weeks to improve tenderness and enhance flavor. Some weight is lost during this process due to evaporation.
Our grass-fed cattle generally have a hanging butcher weight of 750-850 lbs after harvest.
What Is the Difference Between Hanging Weight and Take Home Weight (Boxed Weight)?
  • Hanging Weight: After slaughter, the carcass is weighed before it is aged and butchered. This is typically 60% of the live weight.
  • Take Home Weight (Boxed Weight/Retail Weight): After the aging and butchering process, the carcass is cut into individual retail cuts, which results in the final amount of meat you take home.

Why Is the Take Home Weight Less Than the Hanging Weight?
The percentage of hanging weight that remains after butchering is called the “carcass cutting yield” or “yield”, and it is generally around 60% of the hanging weight. The final weight varies based on:
  1. Bone-In vs. Boneless Cuts – More boneless cuts mean a lower yield, but the total amount of edible meat remains the same.
  2. Fat Trimming – The more surface fat removed, the lower the yield.
  3. Ground Beef Leanness – Leaner ground beef reduces the yield compared to ground beef with a higher fat percentage.
Understanding these factors helps set expectations for the amount of beef you will ultimately receive.

How Much Meat Will I Actually Receive?
The final amount of meat you take home depends on several factors, but here’s a general guideline:
  1. Hanging Weight – This is typically 60% of the live weight of the steer.
  2. Take Home (Packaged) Weight – You can expect 48-75% of the hanging weight to be the final packaged meat in your freezer.

Factors That Affect Take Home Weight:
  • Bone-In vs. Boneless Cuts – More boneless cuts result in a lower final weight.
  • Fat Trimming – More fat left on steaks increases the weight; more trimming decreases it.
  • Ground Beef Fat Ratio – Leaner ground beef lowers the total yield compared to beef with a higher fat content.
  • Animal Composition – The specific steer’s fat and muscle composition also play a role in the final yield.
Since every steer is different, it's impossible to predict the exact amount of meat beforehand, but this equation provides a good estimate of what you can expect.

What Will I Receive When Ordering a Side or Whole Cow?
Each cow varies slightly in weight, but on average, you can expect:
  • Side of Beef (Half Cow) → Approximately 180 lbs of beef
  • Whole Cow → Approximately 360 lbs of beef
Breakdown of Meat Cuts:
  • 45% Ground Beef
  • 25% Roasts
  • 25% Steaks
  • 5% Stew Meat & Smaller Cuts

A complete list of available cuts is provided on the online order form. If you have specific preferences, be sure to note them when placing your order!

Is the Beef Aged?
Yes, we dry-age our beef for optimal tenderness, juiciness, and flavor. This extra care ensures a superior eating experience.

Dry aging is a traditional method of enhancing beef flavor and tenderness. Decades ago, most beef was dry-aged, but since the 1960s, vacuum-sealed wet aging became the norm to retain weight and increase cost efficiency—altering the natural taste of beef.

During dry aging, a crust forms on the meat’s surface, similar to beef jerky. Meanwhile, natural enzymes break down muscle fibers, resulting in tender, more flavorful beef. After aging, the outer crust is trimmed away, leaving behind rich, deeply flavored meat.

What Makes Halal-N-Tayyib Beef More Nutritious?
Our cows graze on nutrient-rich grass and hay for 15-26 months, which allows them to accumulate healthy Omega-3s, CLA, Vitamin E, and B. This results in beef that’s healthier and free from harmful fats like saturated fat and Omega-6s.

How Is the Beef Packaged?
Each cut of meat is vacuum-sealed for maximum freshness. The cuts are clearly labeled with their name and weight for your convenience.

Is There a Certain Way to Cook Grass-Fed Beef?

Yes! Grass-fed beef is leaner than grain-fed, so it requires slight adjustments in cooking times and methods. Here are some tips:
  • Roasts: Cook “low and slow” for tenderness.
  • Steaks: Sear in butter for added moisture and flavor.
  • Burgers: Best enjoyed rare to medium to prevent dryness.
