Udhiya ~ Qurbani FAQs

📖 “This is a commemorative tradition (sunnah) of your patriarch Abraham.” – Cf. Ibn Kathir, Vol 3; p. 22

What is Qurbani/Udhiya?
Qurbani (Udhiyah in Arabic) refers to the sacrifice of an animal to Allah SWT during Eid ul-Adha. It honors Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) devotion and is a means of sharing blessings with the less fortunate. The meat is divided into three portions:
✅ One for the family
✅ One for neighbors
✅ One for the poor

What is Dhul Hijjah?
Dhul Hijjah is the final month of the Islamic calendar, in which Muslims perform Hajj and offer Qurbani. The first 10 days are the most sacred, with acts of worship highly rewarded. 📖 “There are no days in which good works are more beloved to Allah than these days.” (Bukhari)

Key Qurbani Guidelines
📅 When is Qurbani performed?
On the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Dhul Hijjah.

🕌 Who should give Qurbani?
Any sane, adult Muslim who meets the Zakat threshold.

What animals are sacrificed?
✅ Sheep & Goats (1 year+) – 1 share per animal
✅ Cows/Buffalo (2 years+) – 7 shares per animal
✅ Camels (5 years+) – 7 shares per animal

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 How many animals per person?
1 sheep/goat per person, or 1 share of a cow/camel (shared by up to 7 people).

Aqeeqah FAQs

What is the ruling on Aqeeqah?
Aqeeqah is a great Sunnah and a practice inherited from Prophet Ibrahim (AS). The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:
📖 “Every boy is mortgaged by his aqeeqah, so slaughter for him on the seventh day, and shave his head, and name him.” (Ibn Majah)

🔹 Most Islamic scholars view Aqeeqah as a highly recommended Sunnah, while some, like Imam Hasan Al-Basri, consider it obligatory.
🔹 It symbolizes gratitude for the blessing of a child and is a child’s initiation into Tawhid (Oneness of Allah SWT).

When should Aqeeqah be performed?
📅 Preferably on the 7th day after birth
📅 If delayed, it can be performed on the 14th, 21st, or whenever possible.
⚠️ It should not be unnecessarily delayed.

Due to limited availability of grass-fed animals, we advise placing orders in advance. Call us to check for availability.

What animals can be sacrificed for Aqeeqah?
1 goat or lamb per child
✅ The same rules as Qurbani apply regarding age, health, and condition of the animal.
✅ The meat can be distributed to the poor, used for a feast, or shared with family and friends.
📖 The Prophet (SAW) sacrificed one goat each for his grandsons Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn.

What is recommended on the day of Aqeeqah?
1️⃣ Give the child a good name.
2️⃣ Shave the child's head.
3️⃣ Weigh the shaved hair and donate its equivalent value in gold as charity.

Cost of Aqeeqah & Meat Cutting Options
💰 Pricing based on your selected cut:
🥩 Ethnic Cut – Small/medium stew pieces $105
🍖 Standard Cut – Roasts, chops, racks $115
🔪 Custom Cut – Your preferred cuts $125
📌 A deposit is required to reserve your Aqeeqah.
📌 Due to necessary chilling before cutting, delivery takes a few days.

Can I donate my Aqeeqah?

✅ Absolutely! You can donate your Aqeeqah to our Meat Shares Donation Program to help families in need year-round.
✅ Meat donations are distributed widely to maximize impact.
✅ We ensure that everyone has access to wholesome, Halal Tayyib food.

📢 Order in advance & share the blessings of Aqeeqah!
