Our Halal-N- Tayyib Blog
Deepen your understanding of Tayyib living, the Sunnah diet of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), ethical farming, and healthy eating.
What Is Tayyib? How Important Is It That We Focus on Consuming Tayyib Food? Regrettably, there is a significant focus on consuming Zabiha Halal, while the importance of Tayyib meat is often overlooked. However, Tayyib meat holds equal significance and is deeply rooted in our Islamic principles. We firmly believe that consuming Tayyib food is not merely a luxury or a matter of making healthier choices; it is a religious obligation that demonstrates our submission to the beautiful design of our creator. The pursuit of Halal and Tayyib food is intricately connected to our faith. In Islam, the treatment, rearing, health, and welfare of animals, as well as their rights over humans, are all equally vital considerations. The method of slaughter is also of utmost importance. It is crucial to understand that Tayyib is not novel concept; it has always been fundamental principle and intention of Islam. In fact, the Quran mentions Tayyib along Halal at least four times, such as in Surah al-Baqarah verse 168. This is precisely why we chose to name our farm business Halal-N-Tayyib. Our name Halal-N-Tayyib (Halal and Tayyib, Halal wa Tayyib, Halalan Tayyiban) comes straight from the Quraan where Allah SWT mentioned Halal and Tayyib together. For us:
The Islamic principles of Halal and Tayyib play significant roles in ensuring the quality and wholesomeness of our food. Halal guarantees that the animal has been slaughtered in the appropriate manner and is permissible for consumption. On the other hand, Tayyib ensures that the food we consume is not only lawful but also healthy, nutritious, and free from harmful substances. It is crucial to ensure that the animals we consume are disease-free and have not been exposed to hormones, antibiotics, or chemicals during their lifetime. Additionally, Islamic teachings emphasize the importance of minimizing the pain inflicted on animals during slaughter. "O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful (Halal) and good (Tayyib) and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy." [Surat Al-Baqarah Aya 168] "It is part of Islam to eat fresh, home- grown, clean food. Food which is Tayyib. (Wholesome, pure, clean, nutritious)" - Halal Animal Welfare Association At Halal-N-Tayyib, we firmly believe that consuming authentic Halal meat, which is of high quality and sourced from pasture-raised animals, is not only beneficial for the environment, animal welfare, and farmers, but also for ourselves. We consider the consumption of Tayyib food to be a religious duty, as it is intricately connected to one's deen. In Islam, the treatment of animals, their upbringing, health, welfare, and the rights they hold over humans are all significant aspects that should be taken into account. Additionally, the method of slaughter is of utmost importance. We believe that Tayyib is the highest form of agricultural practices and animal rearing care that goes beyond organic such as grass-fed regenerative agriculture and animal rearing practices, rotational grazing and the ethical humane treatment of animals and so much more. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of emphasis placed on eating Halal but there is far less emphasis on whether meat is Tayyib, which is just as important and deeply rooted in our Islamic principles. Halal and Tayyib is not a new concept. It has always been the core principle and the intent of our Deen. We believe that eating Tayyib (wholesome nutritious and clean) food is not a luxury or a matter of choice but is a religious obligation to take care of bodies that are a trust from Allah SWT. Eating Tayyib is a religious, agricultural, and conscious act that have wide ramifications on the whole food ecosystem that we are entrusted to take cake of justly. It is crucial to recognize that Tayyib is not a novel idea. This concept has always been at the core of Halal practices. In fact, the Quran mentions Tayyib at least four times, such as in Surah al-Baqarah verse 168. However, there tends to be a greater focus on the Halal aspect, while the significance of Tayyib is often overlooked. We believe that this is a missed opportunity to fully embrace the holistic approach that Islam encourages when it comes to food consumption. By prioritizing Tayyib, we can ensure that the meat we consume is not only permissible but also of the highest quality, benefiting both our physical health and spiritual well-being. At Halal-N-Tayyib, we are committed to providing you with meat that meets the standards of both Halal and Tayyib. We firmly believe that pasture-raised meat is the closest modern-day farming method to Tayyib. By allowing animals to graze on organic and grass-fed pastures, we ensure that they are raised in a manner that aligns with Islamic principles. This approach not only benefits the animals themselves but also has positive implications for the environment and our own health. We invite you to learn more about us and the farmers we work with, as we strive to promote a conscious and ethical approach to food consumption that is deeply rooted in our faith.
