What Is Halāl ?

Halal (/həˈlɑːl/; Arabic: حلال, ḥalāl) is an Arabic word that translates to 'permissible' in English. In the Quran, the term halal is contrasted with the term haram ('forbidden').

Islam generally considers every food halal unless it is specifically prohibited in hadith or the Qur'an.[1] Specifically, halal foods are those that are:
  1. Made, produced, manufactured, processed, and stored using machinery, equipment, and/or utensils that have been cleaned according to Islamic law (shariah).
  2. Free from any component that Muslims are prohibited from eating according to Islamic law.[2]
"And eat of the things which Allah has provided for you, lawful (Halal) and good (Tayyib), and fear Allah in Whom you believe." (Qur'an 5:88)

At Halal-N-Tayyib, we are guided by our Islamic values from how the animals are raised and treated to how they are slaughtered and processed. In the case, we follow our Islamic law that guarantees animals certain rights such as:

Our animals are not stunned and hand-slaughtered following strict Islamic guidelines which includes the right to a dignified death following these strict guidelines:

  • The slaughtering knife is sharpened so that with one cut the two jugular veins are severed, and while doing so the name of Allah SWT is  uttered. Before, during and after the slaughtering
  • The animal does not see the blade
  • Other animals must not witness the slaughter
  • The animal must not be stunned and must be allowed time for the soul to depart the body and for the majority of the blood to drain out of the veins
  • Processing can not start until the animal has completely stopped moving

At Halal and Tayyib Meats, we made it our mission to make true Halal, nourishing Tayyib meats available to everyone. Along with our local Georgia farmers, we are committed to raising animals that produce ethical superior flavorful meat and we’re excited to bring this highest quality meats to your doorstep! We are both your local farmer and butcher. And guess what? The way your meat is butchered is just as important as it is raised. Our meat is non-stunned hand slaughtered Zabiha. We adhere to the highest Halal slaughtering standards (humane, respectful slaughter process).

Why do pay so much attention to the slaughter process? Because we care for and respect our animals. First because, as Muslims, it is a command from Allah SWT to do so. So, all our animals and birds are hand slaughtered by our founder Rachid Chafyaay, adhering to the utmost Sharia'h standards. Since our business is family farm owned and operated, our animal shares are seasonal and not mass produced and this is true for our processing as well. When it comes to Zabiha slaughtering, rest assured that we go beyond the Halal certification label. The misleading labels of these certifications have been exposed as a big hoax in the meat industry.
