Qurbani FAQs

What is Qurbani/Udhiya?

Qurbani (Udhiyah in Arabic) refers to the sacrifice of an animal to Allah SWT during Eid ul-Adha. It honors Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) devotion and is a means of sharing blessings with the less fortunate. The meat is divided into three portions: One for the family, one for neighbors, and one for the poor.

What is Dhul Hijjah?

Dhul Hijjah is the final month of the Islamic calendar, in which Muslims perform Hajj and offer Qurbani. The first 10 days are the most sacred, with acts of worship highly rewarded.

When is Qurbani performed?

On the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Dhul Hijjah.

Who should give Qurbani?

Any sane, adult Muslim who meets the Zakat threshold.

What animals are sacrificed?

• Sheep & Goats (1 year+): 1 share per animal
• Cows/Buffalo (2 years+): 7 shares per animal
• Camels (5 years+): 7 shares per animal

How many animals per person?

1 sheep/goat per person, or 1 share of a cow/camel (shared by up to 7 people).

Qurbani Deadline

We accept Qurbani orders until the second day of Eid.

Your deposit secures your Qurbani, and final pricing depends on the animal:

• Ethnic Cut: Small/medium stew pieces $105
• Standard Cut: Roasts, chops, racks $115
• Custom Cut: You choose! $125

When is the final payment due?

Your initial deposit secures your share. After slaughter, the animal is weighed (hanging weight), and your final balance is calculated. You will receive an invoice with the exact amount due, which must be paid prior to or at the time of pickup or delivery. This ensures you only pay for the meat you actually receive.

Who receives the Qurbani meat?

Local families in need receive fresh, quality meat. Each Qurbani feeds 2-6 families. Meat is delivered so families can prepare a nutritious Eid meal.

Slaughter & Tayyib Process

How does Halal-N-Tayyib handle the slaughter?

All sacrifices are performed according to strict Islamic guidelines: facing Qibla, recitation of Tasmiyah (Bismillah Allahu Akbar), and using a swift, humane method with an exceptionally sharp knife to ensure the animal does not suffer.

What makes your sacrifice "Tayyib"?

Tayyib means pure and wholesome. Unlike commercial sources, our animals are:

• Born and raised on pasture without hormones or steroids.
• Strictly verified to be free of long-lasting dewormers and synthetic additives.
• Carefully inspected for health and defects to ensure they meet the criteria for a sacred sacrifice.

Can I choose my specific animal or visit the farm?

Yes. You are welcome to visit our farm—or one of our trusted partner farms—on scheduled pickup days or at the slaughter facility. We also share photos and updates in our WhatsApp group so you can see the actual animals reserved for your Qurbani or meat share. Transparency and amanah (trust) are core to how we operate.

What is included in the Custom Meat Cut?

For the Custom Cut ($125 fee), you have full control over how your animal is processed. This includes specifying roast sizes, steak thickness, and bone-in vs. boneless preferences. Our Ethnic Cut ($105) provides traditional stew-sized pieces, while the Standard Cut ($115) provides a mix of roasts, chops, and racks.

All donated meat is professionally processed, labeled, and boxed, then distributed to local families and community members in need through our network of vetted masjids and social service partners. We prioritize households that rarely have access to high-quality, grass-fed Tayyib meat. We also collaborate with ICNA in the Atlanta area and other trusted organizations to ensure your donation reaches those who need it most. Your sacrifice becomes real nourishment for real families.

Do you ship Qurbani meat out of state?

Yes. We offer refrigerated shipping via UPS within our 1–3 day delivery zone and air cargo to major U.S. airports. Customers in states like California and Virginia have successfully received their Qurbani meat this way (see our testimonials). We ensure cold-chain integrity so your meat arrives fresh, safe, and Tayyib.

Why is the meat weight less than the animal's weight?

In butchery, there is a difference between Live Weight and Hanging Weight. During processing, weight is lost from the hide, head, and internal organs. Further weight loss occurs during "shrinkage" while the meat chills and when bones or excess fat are removed. On average, expect a take-home yield of 60-70% of the hanging weight.

Is the sacrifice performed after Eid Salah?

Yes. To strictly adhere to the Sunnah, no Qurbani is slaughtered until after the Eid Salah is completed on the first day. We prioritize local timings to ensure your sacrifice is valid and rewarded.

How do I collect my meat?

Once processing is complete, you will receive a WhatsApp notification with a pickup window. Because our meat is fresh and contains no preservatives, it must be collected within the 48-hour window or coordinated for immediate shipping to maintain food safety.

Are deposits refundable?

Deposits are used to secure the livestock from the farm in advance and are non-refundable. The remaining balance is due upon completion of the butchery.
