"I purchased a lamb from Rachid on Eid 2019 after hajj. It was a choice selection that I personally observed Rachid dressed. Rachid diligently portioned the lamb for me and we barbecued some of the meat and it was Marvelous! Meat was juicy and very tender. Later I took my time as I boiled it as I rationed it from my freezer and it was even better than grilled!"

This year is especially difficult as COVID-19 is still affecting vulnerable families in our community.
Donate your Qurbani with Halal-N-Tayyib to ensure those in desperate need are provided only the best quality wholesome meat to celebrate Eid ul-Adha. Eid ul-Adha is one of the rare occasions where beneficiaries from poverty-stricken backgrounds are able to enjoy meat when they would typically live deprived of it year-round.

QURBANI FAQS

What is Qurbani/Udhiya?

Qurbani, or Udhiyah as it known in Arabic, is the word that describes the sacrifice of an animal to Allah SWT during the period of Eid ul-Adha. On Eid Ul-Adha, which marks the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, the Muslim world celebrates and honors the tradition of the Prophet Ibrahim (Alayhi Salaam) by sacrificing an animal and distributing the meat to those in need. Qurbani teaches us obedience, devotion and promotes the idea of helping other Muslim brothers and sisters. The meat from Qurbani is divided into three portions; one for the family, one for the neighbor and one for the poor. Islam preaches about neighbors’ rights and of those who live in poverty. Qurbani, therefore, serves as a means to look out for the poor and the needy.

What is Dhul Hijjah?

Dhul Hijjah is the final month in the Islamic calendar, the month in which Muslims all over the globe embark on Hajj and offer their Qurbani sacrifices for the love of Allah (SWT). The first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are actually the most sacred days of the whole year, and our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) tells us that “there are no days in which good works are more beloved to Allah than these days” (Bukhari).

What are the days of Qurbani?

The days of Qurbani are the 10th, 11th and 12th of the month of Dhul Hijjah in the Lunar calendar.

Who should give Qurbani?

All Muslim adults who are sane are eligible to pay Zakat must make the sacrifice.

What animals are sacrificed at Qurbani?

The animals to be slaughtered at Qurban are goats, sheep, cattle (cows or bulls), buffalo or camels. According to the rules of Qurbani, they can be male or female, but should be in good health, free from disability or handicap, and above a certain age. Goats and sheep must be at least one year old, while cattle must be two years, and camels five years.

How many Qurbani animals do I have to sacrifice?

Qurban animals have shares. Sheep and goats have one share each, cattle each have seven shares. So for a single person, Qurbani is fulfilled with a sheep or a goat. Up to seven people can share in the purchase of a cow or a camel, and the sacrifice will be made for the seven.

1 small animal (Sheep or Goat) = 1 Qurbani
1 large animal (Cattle) = 7 Qurbanis

You can make as many Qurbanis as you want – for example two or three shares in a cow - and on behalf of as many individuals as you like, including those who have passed away.

What does my donation cover?

Your donation is 1 share of Qurbani, which equals one sheep/goat or 1/7 of a cow. This feeds about 5 to 10 families.

How are Qurbani animals chosen?

The animals will be the appropriate age as set out by Sharia law. The animals will not have any external wounds or injuries, nor will they be physically disabled or have any visible cuts or marks. We will take the utmost care to ensure that our Qurbani takes place in accordance with Islamic principles.

What is the method of the sacrifice?
According to Islamic Law, the legal purification of the flesh of animals requires that the following conditions be met:
  • Making of the intention.
  • It is preferable to make the throat of the animal face the Qibla (i.e. mustahab).
  • Using a sharp knife swiftly cut the windpipe, the gullet and the two jugular veins, do not sever the entire head.
  • Recite the name of Allah SWT (tasmiyah), while slaughtering the animal (Preferably aloud).
  • Skinning of the animal should only commence once the animal stops kicking.
  • Keep meat and offal separate, clean and refrigerate as soon as possible.

What is the process like for the meat distribution? We will make sure your sacrifice is carried out in the appropriate Islamic way and at the right time. Rest assured that we only use the healthiest Qurbani animals (sheep, goat, or cow) and will deliver the fresh meat straight to those who need it the most.
When is the deadline for giving Qurbani?

We will stop taking Qurbani donations after the second day of Eid.

Who receives the Qurbani meat?

All the fresh, succulent Qurbani meat benefits local poor and needy families, allowing them to share the celebration of Eid with us. The Qurbani meat may be handed out so that families can make a hot, nutritious meal for Eid.
