How Do We Rise Our Meat Broilers?

At Halal-N-Tayyib, we raise our meat broilers using the Joel Salatin model, prioritizing ethical, sustainable, and pasture-based practices. Our broilers are specifically bred for high meat yield and faster growth, making them ideal for wholesome, nourishing meals.

The Journey from Chick to Chicken

• We begin with day-old chicks sourced from a trusted independent hatchery.
• The chicks are kept in a warm, protected brooder for their first 3 weeks.
• At 3 weeks, they transition to pasture-based shelters modeled after Joel Salatin’s portable chicken tractors (12 ft x 10 ft x 2 ft).
• These shelters are moved daily to fresh grass, giving chickens access to clean forage and keeping their environment sanitary.

Life on Pasture
​

• Each shelter houses ~75 birds, allowing each one to enjoy an average of 60 square feet of pasture during their lifetime.
• Birds consume 10–15% of their diet in natural forage, rich in green leaves that boost their health and provide Omega-3 fatty acids.
• We raise two breeds:
  • Cornish Cross: Raised for 5–6 weeks
  • Kosher King: Raised for 11–13 weeks
  • Red Broilers: Raised for 10-11 weeks

What We Feed

Our broilers are fed organic and or a non-GMO grain ration from a local Georgia feed mill—free of animal by-products, antibiotics, and fecal contaminants often found in industrial systems. See what is in our feed.
