HALĀL & TAYYIB FIQH

Picture

What Is Halāl ?

"And eat of the things which Allah has provided for you, lawful (Halal) and good (Tayyib), and fear Allah in Whom you believe." (Qur'an 5:88)
Halal (/həˈlɑːl/; Arabic: حلال, ḥalāl) is an Arabic word that translates to 'permissible' in English. In the Quran, the term halal is contrasted with the term haram ('forbidden').

Islam generally considers every food halal unless it is specifically prohibited in hadith or the Qur'an.[1] Specifically, halal foods are those that are:
  1. Made, produced, manufactured, processed, and stored using machinery, equipment, and/or utensils that have been cleaned according to Islamic law (shariah).
  2. Free from any component that Muslims are prohibited from eating according to Islamic law.[2]

At Halal-N-Tayyib, we are guided by our Islamic values from how the animals are raised and treated to how they are slaughtered and processed. In the case, we follow our Islamic law that guarantees animals certain rights such as:

Our animals are hand-slaughtered following strict Islamic guidelines which includes the right to a dignified death following these strict guidelines:

  • The slaughtering knife is sharpened so that with one cut the two jugular veins are severed, and while doing so the name of Allah SWT is  uttered. Before, during and after the slaughtering
  • The animal does not see the blade
  • Other animals must not witness the slaughter
  • The animal must be allowed time for the soul to depart the body and for the majority of the blood to drain out of the veins
  • Processing can not start until the animal has completely stopped moving

At Halal and Tayyib Meats, we made it our mission to make true Halal, nourishing Tayyib meats available to everyone. Along with our local Georgia farmers, we are committed to raising animals that produce ethical superior flavorful meat and we’re excited to bring this highest quality meats to your doorstep! We are both your local farmer and butcher. And guess what? The way your meat is butchered is just as important as it is raised. Our meat is non-stunned hand slaughtered Zabiha. We adhere to the highest Halal slaughtering standards (humane, respectful slaughter process).

Why do pay so much attention to the slaughter process?  Because we care for and respect our animals. First because, as Muslims, it is a command from Allah SWT to do so. So, all our animals and birds are hand slaughtered by our founder Rachid Chafyaay, adhering to the utmost Sharia'h standards. Since our business is family farm owned and operated, our animal shares are seasonal and not mass produced and this is true for our processing as well. When it comes to Zabiha slaughtering, rest assured that we go beyond the Halal certification label. The misleading labels of these certifications have been exposed as a big hoax in the meat industry. Watch "Exposing the corruption in the halal industry (full documentary)" below by One Path Network to see for yourself.

"We are so fixated as Muslims, on how our animals die rather than on how they live. The reality is, the latter is just as important as the former. From experience, the taste of meat from livestock which has been ethically reared is far superior and is of a much higher quality than the halal meat which is available through intensive farming. If we want to eat better and live healthily then the decision lies with us. Let’s try and be more conscious with regard to the importance of tayyib AND halal meat. The future is in our hands" You Are what you Eat! The Halal Plug

How Important Is It That We Focus On Tayyib Meat?

"It is part of Islam to eat fresh, home- grown, clean food. Food which is Tayyib. (Wholesome, pure, clean, nutritious)"- Halal Animal Welfare Association
"O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful (Halal) and good (Tayyib) and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy." [Surat Al-Baqarah Aya 168]

There are so many reasons why we need to opt out of the current abusive factory farming system. We really need to know where our food comes from because we are what we eat! The same goes for the animals we eat. We should not only be concerned about what we eat, but what our food eats as well. Whether it’s grass-fed beef or organic pasture-raised chicken, you deserve to feel good about the meat you’re buying. Allah (SWT) commands us to eat food that is Halal (lawful) and Tayyib (wholesome, pure, and good) for us!

While Halal ensures the animal is slaughtered in the correct way and is permissible for us to eat, Tayyib ensures the food we eat is healthy, nutritious and good for us. It is important to know that the animals we consume are healthy, free of disease, hormones, antibiotics, and chemicals at the time of slaughter. In fact, even during slaughter, we; as Muslims; are not allowed to inflict unnecessary pain on the animal and the animal should be slaughtered away from the sight and hearing of the other animals.

Eating Tayyib is just as important and deeply rooted in our Islamic principles as Halal. First of all, eating Tyayib food is an act of worship "Ebadah" for which we will be rewarded by Allah SWT for submitting to his commandment. It is part of doing GOOD "Maarouf" because we are choosing to contribute to a food production system that Allah SWT will be pleased with because that what He intended for his creations and us. The food we feed our families should not be a mystery; we deserve the best in both flavor and health! We do not have to compromise between Halal and Tayyib. We can have both! Alhamdulillah, there is an alternative to the current abusive system model, and this is exactly what we are trying to do here Halal-N-Tayyib Meats Shares. We are dedicated to providing our community with the highest standards of Halal healthy meat that is not just good for us, but for the animals, the farmer, and the earth.

What Is Tayyib?

"O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful (Halal) and good (Tayyib) and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy."  [Surat Al-Baqarah Aya 168]
"It is part of Islam to eat fresh, home- grown, clean food. Food which is Tayyib. (Wholesome, pure, clean, nutritious)" - Halal Animal Welfare Association
Tayyib is specifically mentioned ALONGSIDE Halal in the Quran and Hadith. Organic and grass-fed regenerative farming is the closest modern-day farming method to Tayyib. It does not relate only to the slaughter process or if the animal has enough space to move around. Tayyib is tied right back to a person’s Deen. The treatment of the animal and its rearing, its health and welfare, the rights of the animal over a human in Islam as well as how it is slaughtered. We believe pasture-raised is absolutely, without a doubt, is Tayyib and it is better for the animals, better for the environment, better for your health — which is better for you! Learn more about us and our farmers.

At Halal-N-Tayyib, we believe that eating less meat – and eating true Halal high-quality, pasture-raised meat– because it is is better for the earth, animal welfare, farmers, and us.We believe eating tayyib  food is a religious obligation. It is tied right back to a person’s Deen. The treatment of the animal and its rearing, its health and welfare, and the rights of the animal over a human in Islam as well as how it is slaughtered are all equally important. There’s a lot of emphasis placed on eating Halal but there is far less emphasis on whether meat is tayyib, which is just as important and deeply rooted in Islamic principles. Halal and Tayyib is not a new concept. It has always been the core principle of Halal, in which Halal and Tayyib appeared at least four times in the Quraan for example in Surah al Baqarah verse 168.

"Whoever is kind to the creatures of God, is kind to himself."
- The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), narrated by Abdallah bin Amru in Bukhari and Muslim collections
Our animals are raised humanely by living their natural life in the natural habitat Allah SWT meant for them to be in. They are given time to mature naturally  without the use of growth hormones, or genetically modifying their traits to grow faster, without the use of steroids and antibiotics in the duration of their life.

Our animals have access to wholesome food that is not harmful. Genetically modified grains such as corn and soy are very harmful to animals, humans, and earth. The feed for our chickens is strictly organic vegetarian, and for lambs, goats, steers, is grass-fed and pasture-raised.

Our animals spend their entire life on the farm. We do not buy animals from the auction.

"Consumers have been led to believe that meat is meat is meat. In other words, no matter what an animal is fed, the nutritional value of its products remains the same. This is not true. An animal’s diet can have a profound influence on the nutrient content of its products."
